Other labels can be used but they MUST be tested before committing to large quantities. When shopping for labels other than the ones listed above, please look out for the following attributes:

• You will want to purchase labels that are printable. Look for the words "Paper Tags" or "White" or "Label / sticker". Generally, do not purchase if it says "Wet Inlay" 
  • Ensure that the substrate is suitable for Thermal Transfer printing
• EPC Memory Content must be pre-encoded as "Unique" or "auto-serialized"
• Ensure the core size is suitable.
  • 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) or 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) would work standard with the printer
  • 1.5 in. (38.1), 2.0 in., (50.8 mm) and 3.0 in. (76.2 mm) core sizes require using optional adapters. The ZD621R should come with adapters in the box but this should be verified with the supplier.
  • Often times you can request that the media be re-rolled on the desired core size.
• Ensure the total outer diameter of the roll fits into the printer. For the ZD621R, max outer diameter is 5in (127mm)
• Ensure the label size is suitable for your needs.  
  • We recommend 54 x 34 mm (2.13 x 1.34 in)
  • The ZD621R printer can only support 0.585 in./15 mm to 4.65 in./118 mm
• Look for tags made suitable for "Apparel & Fashion" or "Logistics". This usually refers to the chip and antenna combination.
• It does not hurt to ask the supplier if the labels are compatible with ZD621R printer. There may be some other attributes of the tag that make it not suitable for the printer.

Ink Ribbon

The ZD621R can support many types of ink ribbon. Often times you can find a list of compatible ribbons linked from the supplier's ZD621R product page. Otherwise, reach out to the supplier's customer support to ensure they are compatible.

When shopping for ink ribbons, a few things to consider:

• Ink type should be compatible with the label
  • Wax — compatible with all types of paper tags
  • Wax-Resin — should be used on coated paper labels like, glossy, smooth surfaces, and synthetic labels
  • Resin — should be used on synthetic labels and garment labels
• Inner core size must be compatible with the printer
  • 1 in./25.4 mm or 0.5 in./12.7 mm
• Ribbon Length or Outside diameteris compatible with the printer
  • 2.6 in./66 mm outer diameter or 984 feet/300 meter length
  • 1.34 in./34 mm outer diameter or 243 feet/74 meter length
• Width is compatible with both the printer and the labels. The ribbon must be wider than the labels.
  • ZD621R can support 1.3 in./33 mm up to 4.3 in./109.2 mm
• It doesnt hurt to ask the supplier about general compatibility with the Zebra ZD621R printer. 
• We generally recommend purchasing Zebra brand ink ribbons as they are made to perform well with Zebra printers.
